Blog Post - 9/28/09
Hi again, and stuff. It’s been rather busy and we haven’t recorded anything new. Also, Jackie is in a foreign land. Today’s show/site news is complicated. I have had - for some time - about five hours of un-edited audio, about four of which I think is post-worthy. I haven’t edited it yet because… I don’t know. It’s not fun.
A major component of this show is that it was to be fun for all involved. I won’t speak for the others, but for me this has ceased to be fun. That doesn’t mean the show goes away, and it doesn’t mean you will not hear this audio I am sitting on. This show has been in a perpetual state of change, and that isn’t stopping any time soon. I think some of our recent changes haven’t panned out, and in doing them, we have lost some good stuff. I’m not looking to close the doors on it, but it does seem obvious that we will never post regularly. That being said, here is a really awesome thing from listener Mal:
There’s also a censored version, which I guess I’ll put up here or somewhere at some point. But let’s be honest, we all know you’re here for the audio. Well, I ain’t postin’ anything now. But let’s go ahead and say it’s about a 53% chance I’ll put something up in the next few days.

That makes sense. Podcasting would be a lot more enjoyable for everyone if we didn’t have to edit audio after recording…

Yeah, but it’s not just that. The recording part hasn’t been a whole lot of fun, either.
What changed from season 1 to season 2?
Structure, subjects, some back-end stuff. Getting ready to record and sitting down to record now feel like a job that I don’t get paid for, especially when I bring up a subject that doesn’t hit. I don’t know, it’s not a big deal. Like I said, it’s not the end of the show. This is more of an acknowledgment that we haven’t and likely won’t post with any regularity or frequency.
I think 3 guys works best when the topics are either heady (but often time this is not the case) or just plain old fucked up shit (which is usually gold). That being said in terms of content creation and trying to make recording fun I think that perhaps you guys should only record when you have accumulated enough stories with fucked up shit. This could also be driven by listener submission (i.e. don’t record until you get enough listener content). Just a thought

Fine points, and certainly worth taking into consideration. We actually have a mountain of subjects, but it still seems impossible to predict if a subject will or won’t hit with the people in the room. That leads to a lot of dead-air-time, which I’m not posting. It’s actually incredibly difficult to find a heady topic that people are willing to even get into. Either way, it leads to us not wanting to crack the mics. Maybe I’ll take this time to search through my pile of emails and topics and whittle them down to the obviously good. I would prefer we post a show three-to-five times a week, but that’s ridiculous. That reminds me, I haven’t posted that stuff yet…
