Rocking “Aruarian Dance” in memory of a musical artist that changed my outlook on life and started this whole “Twinkie Beyond” thing.

You knew it was “Twinkie Beyond” when that soft flute started and that sweet drum beat kicked in. A welcome to, what was back in 2005, another innocuous episode of a 21-year old kid recanting the goings-on of his weekend. The sweet sound of snare and woodwind would carry “Twinkie Beyond” (the podcast) well into its “second season.” It made a brief reappearance in this podcast’s third and/or fourth “season.”

It was a trademark, I guess, of this podcast. Nujabes, the independent hip-hop genius who made that tune’s dead now.

Ain’t got much more to say about it. Not sure if you can tell when you listen to this podcast, but I’m a very insular person and I don’t like explaining my motives. Let’s just leave it as this: before you ever “met” “Jackie, a 20-X year-old guy living in Central Maryland,” I was a total asshole who did shitty things to shitty people and had tunnel vision when it came to life. Nujabes’ music opened my eyes (almost religiously, even) and my taste in music.

Since the very beginning of the podcast, I’ve had tons of e-mails/Skype conversations/etc., asking who the background music was by. I was always hesitant to say because his music was…I don’t know…”mine.” At least, I felt it was “mine.” You know how when somebody claims to know more about your wheelhouse and you wanna punch them in the mouth? Yeah.

I remember when Jake of The HadoKings asked me if they could use “Just Forget” (TB’s opening song) in an episode of theirs’. I was like “sure, it ain’t my song,” but when I heard it on episode one of The HadoKings, my heart sunk.

I hated telling people about Nujabes. I still do. He’s one of those artists that I hate hearing outside of the confines of my own iPod. I’ll play the music at work or in my car for others to listen, but I only want them to walk away with the impression of the tune and not the artist’s name. Kind of like LiVE; remember that rant? I’ll straight walk out of a room that’s playing Lightning Crashes or The Dolphin’s Cry. I just can’t stand it.

Look, I get it. Other people like Nujabes too. Maybe some of you had known of him before you known of me. Doesn’t make it any less angsty for me.

The point is this sucks, but I’m not gonna be one of those stupid people who still mourns for Kurt Cobain or Jimi Hendrix. Stupid kids.

I may have lost one of my eyes to diabetes and one leg to a faulty (read: explosive) man hole cover, but I certainly have not lost my sense of humor.

Vidcast 04 – Vendor in Ameyoko

So there’s this market on Ameyoko street(?) in Ueno. It’s directly under a JR railway but it’s awesome like finding a free DS Lite on the ground…but better yet, the DS is made of gold. Gold that can teleport you to any time and place in history. Oh, and there’s a bunch of money and hot bitches laying next to the DS too.

Yeah. It’s that awesome. Why? Because it’s an outdoor flea market/market/deli/clothier/electronics fair/arcade/crepe store/pet store that sells all of the aforementioned plus happiness. Yes, you can buy happiness in Ameyoko Market. I saw the Kanji for “Happiness – 500 billion Yen and your first born” somewhere.

So this video was taken after I had finished this delicious okonomiyaki/egg/something-or-other. It was some sort of batter (made out of awesome), seaweed shreddings, an egg (which, by the way, is the perfect food), some crazy unagi-ish sauce, and, of course, QP Mayo. QP Mayo is the shit…seriously, a critical mission of mine when visiting the Land of the Rising chin-chin Sun was to stock up on QP Mayo. Boy, did I ever. Anyway, this pancake thing was friggin’ awesome and cost less than two bucks. It rocked the…ummm…Shinto shrine.

…okay, so none of that buying happiness stuff was true.

Whoa. A surprise episode! I had no idea that this would not only be recorded but edited and posted within the same hour. Awesome.

For you Wife-Friend fans, she’s all over this episode. It actually all sparked…well, you’ll hear why I had to do an episode. I know that a lot of you are still waiting for my Japan-Land trip review; don’t worry! I’ll get to it. I want to air out my complaints and entertaining moments as much as you need want to hear them. (Which might actually mean not at all!) Seriously, I’ll get on those next week.

Vidcast 02 – Hostel Room “Tour”

For my first entry in my half-assed attempt at chronicling my trip to Japan-Land (April 1st – April 13th, 2007), I present to you Episode 02 of Twinkie Beyond: The Vidcast. It’s of me getting back from Harajuku/Ikebukuro; I want to say Day 6. I walked into my hostel room and saw that it was tidied up, so I decided to show you guys the hostel room in its (almost) purest form. Glory hole and all.

This room was insanely small. Seriously, I don’t get how the anime teens who live alone do it. I mean, I guess it makes sense ’cause it’s only one person, but come on! Six tatami and a…ummm…hallway(?) that’s the size of a DDR arrow pad? God damn. Well, I guess that’s what they get for being animated.

Anyway, expect an episode of Twinkie Beyond: The Podcast probably next week. I’m working on uploading most of my pictures up to a Flickr account that doesn’t quite exist yet. There’s a link to it on the sidebar, but I haven’t added any pictures yet. I’ll be sure to post here when I’ve got pictures up. I figure it’ll be some time before Sunday eve. Vidcast 01 – A Trip to Sonic.

What up, bitches? So, Twinkie Jackie has finally ventured into the world of vidcasting. I bought me a digital camera that I’m bringing with me to Japan-Land, so I’ve been amateur photographing it up. Here’s a quick video that I shot while parked in a Sonic parking lot. Yes, SONIC.

For you old-school listeners who remember Podcast 001 where I talked about how Sonic didn’t exist but yet they have to play those dick-tease commercials, you’ll understand.

For you new-school listeners…just go with it.

I apologize for the Parkinson’s I was displaying. Also, the iMovie editing was pretty fun. I suck at it. Deal with it.
This Sonic’s was up in assfuck Ephrata, Pennsylvania. The Wife-Friend and I were headed up to another city in PA so we decided to plan a road trip based on stopping at this Sonic’s. Let me tell you…it was fucking awesome. We made a detour back to the Sonic’s on the was home too. Too bad the bitch is two hours away from home, otherwise I’d be there every other day. That sandwich that I had in the video was awesome! It was the size of a Big Mac but cheaper and filled me up before I finished it, unlike Big Macs. Delicious. I’d punch my wife in the face and throw her in to oncoming traffic for another Sprite with a shot of orange and cherry syrup right now. Seriously.

Happy new year, bitches! Thanks to everyone who has ported their silly asses over here to www.twinkiebeyond.com! Simon has been a gracious host and allowed me to use the fuck out of his server space. So expect more episodes of this here audio-blog, Twinkie Beyond, and other assorted mischief.

Today I have a very special MP3 for you. Special because I edited it. I don’t listen to any of my own recordings, so listening to myself converse with others was very awkward. Am I retarded for laughing at my own jokes or making the same lame joke that I did the first time the set-up was made? Methinks so. So, anyway, here is Episode 01 of the as-of-yet unnamed Podcast that my friends Aaron and Derek and I have started. In this inaugural episode, we talk about 911 (don’t worry, it ain’t heavy), onlinebootycall.com and other anecdotal bullshit. That’s how we idiots do.

Simon, being infinitely wiser and generouser (yeah, shut up) then I am, has hooked me up with some webspace and a domain name.

That’s the new website! So instead of killing my Podcast completely, I have taken a 180 and am completely re-hauling it. Well, the website part, that is. This way, if I don’t put out an episode every week for a month, I’m not incurring a five dollar charge. I’ll be getting rid of Libsyn VERY soon so update your RSS feeds appropriately! Simon has been gracious enough to hook me up with some webspace for my MP3s as well. So now I can be as (in)frequent as I choose to be!

I don’t know anything about editing and all that shit when it comes to a webpage, so once Simon teaches me the ropes, I’ll get on it. I wonder if I can hook people up with the same RSS feed, I’m thinking not.
